Everything You Need to Deep Clean a Bathroom!

Below I go into how I deep clean my bathroom, but I do understand that not everyone has time nor likes to read long post. That’s why I am going to leave a button here that will take you straight to the products I recommend!

The Process of Deep Cleaning a Bathroom!

I follow a cleaning schedule to make sure that each room of my home gets deep cleaned every week. I am going to share with you the process of how I clean my bathroom and the products to which I use. On Wednesday’s, I deep clean my bathroom. When deep cleaning any room you want to clean from top to bottom. However, if there is something in the room that needs to sit for a little while or takes longer (like laundry), start with it first.

When starting the process of cleaning the bathroom, the very first thing I do is put the toilet bowl cleaner in the toilet. This way it can sit in there while you are cleaning other things, and you can let the product work for you. After that, I start with the rule of cleaning from top to bottom. I take my Swiffer Duster and go around the corners of the room, and over any shelves to just remove that top layer of dust off everything. After that, I then tackle the shower.

The shower is a process in itself, and there are many different variations of “cleaning” it. There is the quick scrub, the quick wipe down, and then the deep clean. I am just going to focus on the deep cleaning one for today. First, you need to remove all your products from the shower. I usually place them in the sink, simply because they are normally wet. After everything is removed, I spray Dawn Powerwash over each wall, shelf, ledge, or specific stains. I use my O’Cedar mop handle and the scrubber brush attachment first. This tool is amazing for getting the walls and floors of the shower, and protecting you from hurting your back. For the smaller areas, I recommend my favorite Small Cleaning Brushes. These brushes can get into the areas I never thought possible, and they do a fantastic job at cleaning those areas. For the places that need a little extra elbow grease, I will go in with a Scrub Daddy sponge! Scrub Daddy sponges are the only sponges that I recommend because they can handle everything, without having to worry about scratching what you are cleaning. Hopefully, you are able to stop the scrubbing portion here, but sometimes there are just extra stubborn stains. For those scenarios, I recommend either the Scrub Daddy PowerPaste or the Scrub Daddy Cif Cream All Purpose Cleaner. Of course, you can use the Scrub Daddy or O’Cedar Scrubber Brush with those, but for the stubborn stains I would definitely reach for the Scrub Daddy Eraser Sponge! I used to use a different, very well known eraser sponge, but when I would use that sponge it was almost a one time use. It would always tear or fall apart the first time I used it. However, with the Scrub Daddy Eraser Sponge, I have never had to replace it because of it falling apart. The reasons I have had to replace it were either because it was just getting a little too old or because I used it on a mess that I thought it needed to be thrown away after. After scrubbing the shower/tub clean, now I spray a fine layer of the Clorox Scentiva Disinfecting Spray and let it set for the amount of time it takes to disinfect the area. Then, I wipe it down one last time, put all the products back into the shower, and the shower/tub is complete!

After the shower and tub, I move on to the sink. However, remember you need to work from top to bottom. That means before making your vanity and sink sparkle, you need to clean the mirror. I clean my mirror with a microfiber cloth and Sprayaway Glass Cleaner. This glass cleaner doesn’t leave streaks. However, if you want to make sure there are no streaks or you are using another glass cleaner, you can turn off your bathroom lights to clean your mirror. Cleaning a mirror with the lights on is one of the reasons streaks are made. The lights starts to evaporate the product before you have time to buff it all in. Now to the sink, just like the shower you need to remove everything from the vanity and sink area. Normally, for me, the Dawn Powerwash is all I need to scrub the sink. If it doesn’t get the job done, of course, I would recommend either the Scrub Daddy PowerPaste or the Cif Cream Cleaner. Also like the shower, once the scrubbing portion is complete, finish it with the Clorox disinfecting spray to sanitize the area.

Before moving on to the toilet this is when I would go around the bathroom with the Clorox Disinfecting Wipes and clean the light switches, door knobs, shelves, products, and anything else in the bathroom. This is also where I would wash the trash can with a Scrub Daddy and Dawn Powerwash. After that, it is time to tackle the toilet. When it comes to the toilet, I never use microfiber cloths or sponges. I use one of two things, paper towels or white cotton clothes. One of those can be thrown away after using them, and the other can be bleached as much as needed! When it comes to the toilet, the first thing I do besides putting toilet bowl cleaner in the bowl, is I go over the entire thing with a Swiffer Duster. After that, I will spray the entire toilet from the top to floor in Clorox Disinfecting Spray. *Make sure you always read the back of any spray to see how long you need to let it set for it to disinfect it!* Once the right amount of time has gone by, I then wipe the entire toilet and surrounding floor with either paper towels or the white cloths. After that, I will then, finally, scrub the bowl. For the finishing touch, I place a Lysol Click Gel in the area where the most water comes into the bowl.

Finally, we are at the last step of deep cleaning the bathroom, the floor! This one is fairly simple. I take my Cordless Shark Vertex Pro vacuum, and vacuum the floor. This vacuum comes with many different attachments, therefore, I really recommend it for getting into all the hard to reach spaces of a bathroom. Once the floor is completely vacuumed, I will take my O’Cedar mop and do a good ole fashion cleaning of the floor. I recommend the Lysol MultiSurface Cleaner! Besides the scent that I love, it actually kills the bad bacteria in you home that could make you sick! After all that hard work, the last thing to do is light a candle and relax!
